Home Groups

At the heart of the church life are our Home Groups which are intended to be Biblical communities of change and transformation.

What are Home Groups?

Home Groups are groups of about 10 people and meet in someone’s home on either a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday evening, with one group meeting on a Thursday afternoon. The groups meet for three out of four weeks per month during term time.

At the heart of the Home Group programme are prayer and Bible study, usually working through a section of Scripture over several weeks, or perhaps looking Biblically at particular topics, with a focus on applying Biblical truths to the details of our lives.

Who is in a Home Group?

Home Groups are intended to reflect the nature of God’s amazing church, by being made up of people of different ages and stages of maturity, with different backgrounds, personalities and experiences.

What can we expect from Home Group?

We hope that all who join a home group will be committed to:

Christ-centred change - In Christ we have been made new, and in joining a Home Group we would expect to see change in our lives, to live out that new life, to become more like Jesus.  This happens where His Word and Spirit are at work, in the context of a loving community.

Love for one another  -  A loving community requires a real commitment to one another.  In joining a Home Group we commit to getting to know, love and support the other members of our group, and they us.

Looking outwards  -  Home Groups have the joy of serving the whole church through preparing a meal about once a year for the Emmanuel Evening prayer meeting.  They also have the privilege of being involved in God’s purposes for the world by connecting with one of the Emmanuel mission partners. Home Groups are an important source of encouragement as we seek to share our faith with non-Christian family and friends.

Women @ Emmanuel

Women of all ages and stages are welcome at Emmanuel, whether you would like to investigate the Christian faith for yourself or are a seasoned believer.

We have women’s Bible studies during the day on Tuesday (with a crèche) and Wednesday, and many women take part in our evening home groups on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.

A typical year will include two women’s breakfasts (in September and January) and an outreach event before Christmas as well as a day away together in spring, enjoying fellowship and learning from God’s word.

Working women meet once every half term as the Lydia group which has a particular emphasis on living as a Christian in the workplace.

Many women are encouraged as they meet as prayer triplets or partnerships on a regular basis.

Men @ Emmanuel

We run a number of outreach and discipleship men’s events throughout the year aimed at encouraging one another and reaching out to friends and family with the gospel.

Events range from Men’s Breakfasts and Curry Nights to trips away and online Saturday morning Bible studies. Many men also enjoy the encouragement and accountability they receive from prayer triplets.
