Home Groups

Home Groups are a vital part of our church life at Emmanuel.

The aim of a homegroup is to provide an opportunity for deepening fellowship and learning to live as disciples of Jesus Christ – through Bible study, prayer, socials and supporting and serving one another.

In an increasingly fragmented society, in which networks are replacing genuine community, homegroups are a great way to make friendships, deepen relationships, and live out the kind of family life that is envisaged in the New Testament. We believe that in his wisdom, God is in the business of breaking down barriers and bringing people of diversity into one body, so our groups are mixed in age range and backgrounds. Much of the pastoral care within the church happens formally and informally through the homegroups.

Our homegroups meet weekly, except for the first week of the month when we hold our central Emmanuel Evening prayer meeting. At the heart of the homegroup meeting is a study of the Bible, usually working through a book of the Bible or doing a topical series (eg.recently, 1 Peter, Studies in Contentment, Isaiah, God’s New Community – a Biblical view of the Church).

There are homegroups meeting on Monday or Tuesday evenings and one on alternate Thursday afternoons. Open Gate meets monthly at the church, read more here. If you would like to join a homegroup, or want further information, contact John Shepherd or Linda McNamara or e-mail
